American Legion Father’s Day Fish Derby

American Falls Fish Derby on Father's Day - rainbow troutThe American Legion is holding their annual Father’s Day Fish Derby on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at the American Falls Reservoir. With $1000 in cash prizes along with many other prizes up for grabs, it is a great way to spend time with your family on Father’s Day. The money raised by this fundraiser helps send students to Boys State and Girls State, along with providing support for the community flag program.

The contest runs from 5 am to 5 pm; entries to the contest must be purchased before 11 am. The entry fee is $10 per person, and includes a FREE hot dog or hamburger lunch that is served from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm by the American Legion. Lunch can be purchased separately for $5; The Bay Restaurant will also be open and serving lunch for those wishing to eat there.

New this year: The first 200 people to enter into the Fish Derby will receive a $10 gift card to Sportsman’s Warehouse!

Boats can be launched from the Power County West Boat Dock or the Marina Boat Dock ($5 launch fee is NOT included in the cost of admission). Anglers may weigh-in as many fish as they would like; all fish will be cleaned by American Legion volunteers after being weighed. This is a rainbow trout derby only; all other types of fish will be cleaned and weighed upon request but cannot be entered into the competition.

Winners will be announced at The Willow and The Bay at 5:30 pm. Winning is determined by weight; in the case of a tie, length of the fish will be the tiebreaker. Only one fish per person may be entered into the competition.

Entry into the fishing derby contest will also automatically enter you into the door prize drawing; many prizes have been donated by local merchants. You must be present to win a door prize.

New Contest: Adult – Child Competition

Adult - child walking together - GIFThe American Legion has a new contest this year: A child under the age of 12 may combine their heaviest fish with the heaviest fish caught by an adult over the age of 18. Together, the heaviest total weight combo will win a $100 gift card.

Although this is a Father’s Day derby, the American Legion does not discriminate based on gender; father and son, mother and daughter, grandfather and granddaughter, or even cousins can all pair together to enter this contest.

Raffle for Camping or Fishing Packages

A camping package that includes a tent, sleeping bag, chair, lantern, cooler, and more; or

A fishing package that includes a pole, tackle, tackle box, chair, cooler, and more.

Packages will be on display the day of the derby.

Tickets are $1 each or $5 for six tickets. The first person whose ticket is drawn gets their choice of which package they want. The drawing will be held at 5:30 pm at The Willow and The Bay – you need not be present to win.

Preregistration and Raffle Tickets

To save time on the morning of the Father’s Day Fish Derby, you can preregister (entry fee must be paid at time of registration) and/or buy a raffle ticket at The Willow and The Bay up to the day before the competition.

Since this is one of the most popular fishing derbies in the area, the Willow Campgrounds fill up quickly. Be sure to make your reservation for a tent or RV space as soon as possible to ensure you have a place to stay!
